Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

To me, one of the greatest advantages of home roasting is controlling the degree of roast. As I'm not a fan of "Charbucks," I prefer a lighter roast. Freshly degassed beans, roasted to a proper level of "doneness" and run through a decent burr grinder is one of life's pleasures.

I use a popcorn popper that has been...ahem, modified...to work as a coffee bean air roaster. Works well. ymmv.
How do you do that, and do you avoid smoke?

That some rabbit hole right there. Glad you save a ton of money by roasting your own

Just me enjoying freshly grinded medium roast coffee at work during my break time :)

I bypassed the thermostat/temperature breaker (do not use unattended). Smokes like hell. I roast in the driveway. In the winter I roast in the garage with the door up about a foot. Most of the and chaff goes outside.

You should upgrade to home roasting… you’ll never go back, and, by my calculations, (16oz per day consumption rate), I had a just over two year ROI versus buying already roasted. Also, I can get my roast exactly as I like it.

I use the Genecafe’ roaster, and typically get my green beans from SweetMarias (California company)
I have resisted the rabbit hole of home roasting, despite making furniture, ukuleles, drums, pulled pork, and sausage.

Alas, the ONLY available tickets were for the Sunday night (last one) tour, and $400 for not so great seats… screw that.

Yep, that’s how I did it with my “popcorn/air popper” until I said F-this, and got the Genecafe… it works well inside IF you have a proper kitchen vent hood. Outside is always better, temperature permitting

Maybe a solid cherry rack for a WiiM and Vali 3 to match my larger racks.

Once again, some of the references in this thread have gone way over my head. 🍹
I got it but I moved on. I am listening to a 2007 remaster of the Pretenders' My City was Gone. I love it!

If you were old enough to get that, they’d have washed you and your jet with fire trucks already… 😉
