I'm looking for both advice and a cable recommendation.

I'm thinking of getting a Gjallarhorn as a headphone amp. Mostly to play with but if it performs better than my Jotunheim 1 with my Drop HE-5XX (with Balanced XLR cable) I would replace the Jot since I no longer use the DAC in it (I have a SU-8 that I now use).

Has anyone here used the Gjallarhorn as an amp for planar cans and if so, can anyone recommend me the appropriate cable to convert from Banana plug to 4 pin XLR (Fog City audio, LQI, etc)?

Any advice is appreciated

If I may suggest something, why not get the cheapest, simplest converter cable you can and just see if you like it? I don't know about the Gjallarhorn per se (although with speakers it sounds really good), but using speaker amps is pretty popular for planars.

I got the cable today (not labeled sadly no have to find my multimeter to see which banana plug goes to which pin on the xlr) but my amp (emotiva a100) has a high noise floor. I’ll be getting the amp sometime in the next couple months to test it out. At the moment my work schedule won’t allow me to test or enjoy much so I’ll be waiting until a vacation comes around to play with new gear.

Yes, the noise floor is a killer for a usage like this. You need to aim for something quiet.

Please update us on the effect.

I've been using it with an HE6se V2, LSA HP Diamond, and a SJY Starry Night for a while, all planar. I think it sounds great personally. That extra "omph" is definitely what the SJY liked, the HE6 has been good too but I might just not like the HE6SE v2 sound, the Diamond was a big surprise as it actually scaled well with more power.
