REVIEW: Violectric V181 balanced headphone amp
Jan 10, 2016 at 9:00 AM Post #91 of 102
The successor of V181 will be called V280.
It is based on V200 amp technology like V281 but without all the extras.
 ... at last a basic V281 ...
V280 will be released in spring 2016.
The suggested price will be between V181 and V281.

Thank you

Wow, that's good news Fried! So, we can expect balanced and single ended output, and possibly XLR and RCA inputs right? But maybe get rid of the preamp outputs, and the balance (left/right) knob, and the remote control.

Seems like a fair trade for those features that not every user will care about.

Front and back from the upcoming HPA V280 is similar to the well known HPA V181.
But to get it all inside, the case is 8 cm longer, like the ones from V220 / V281.
No changes in inputs and outputs compared to V181.
Just the 4 x the famous amps from V200 inside for those who want a pure amp without gimmicks.
To make it a bit more complicated for the far east copy shops, this time we are using a quad-layer PCB.
Maybe we will succeed this time in protecting our efforts.

Take a look

As far as I know the last remaining V181 units were sold on Massdrop a couple of months ago. I bought mine just before it was discontinued; go figure. As for EU stock, I don't know. Pretty sure they're all sold out in N. America though.

You got lucky then! Thanks for the reply. As for EU, I didn't manage to find nothing so far.

Hello, I see this thread is dead but I hope to get an answer. )

How does the 181 perform with the HD 800S in balanced mode?
I read in some reviews that this amp is slightly warm, so my concern is if it increases the bass quantity, I don't need too much bass.
Thank you.

Sorry for popping up this thread. Just curious, is there anyone who had experience with both V181 and V280/281? I'm searching for sound differences between these two models.
