I sent an email to Audio Technica about the warranty info from buying an IM02 on Amazon. They said if they do originate from a Japanese seller authorized through Amazon, they will not offer warranty if the Japanese seller is not an approved distributor. Just thought I would let you guys know.

Amazon themselves sell IM02, so why not just buy it direct from them. Amazon is authorized AT dealer. They are back ordered 1-3 months right now, but Amazon usually ships such items within 2 weeks. I bought them right before they ran out.

Yeah, that's what you should do. I was lucky enough to find a warehouse deal that would still honor the warranty.

  Golden Ears has measured IM01/02/03/04

Going by those results it seems, IM02>IM01>IM03=IM04

IM01 has the same basic signature than the 03/04 but with better bass and treble extension and less peakier. IM02 is better than the 01 because it's treble is smoother and more extended, though it's lacking some bass in comparison. But the IM01 may have potential to be the best with some customization, like adding 15ohm impedance and using long tips to even out it's treble

So basically, there seems no point to look past the 02 in this lineup, save your money guys!

Sorry to dig up an old post, but where are the measurements for the IM03 (and 01)? I only see measurements for 02 and 04 on the GoldenEars website.

I found them on the Korean Golden Ears page -

Had the im02 with at-hd5 upgraded cables. Run from a dx90 and it is so good! The clarity, soundstage etc. With the exception of bass, it is way better than how the im04 sounded with those hd5 cables from my dx90.

Not to say that the im04 is bad, coz it isn't. I liked the im04 when paired with the hd5 cable, not without, but my se846 is similar sounding but way better (way pricier too though).

Just my two cents worth. :)

Hmmm, looking at the IM03 and that 9k peak doesn't look too good. IM03 owners, how does this sound?

Also, the top-end seems to roll-off early and steeply around 16k.

9k peak is not something to be afraid of causing harshness or sibilance and the drop at 16kz is quite normal as you may not notice that roll-off. If the peak was about 4-5k then it is something to be afraid of.

Are the IM02 a worthy upgrade to the IM70? I'd like to get a more analytical IEM to compliment it, but I'm kind of thinking my GR07 will fill that role fine in the meantime. IM03 is a good bit more than I'd like to pay so it'd have to be the IM02 if I'd get one. I'm just not sure it's worth the $100 upgrade.

Could you compare these to your GR07s here in the thread?

Sorry I haven't gotten to this, but maybe tomorrow I can do a write-up over the IM dual driver series and GR07.

I'm interested in an IM series (BA and dynamic) comparison to the GR07 too!

One thing I can definitely say for IM50/70 and IM02 is that they aren't sibilant like GR07. I hated GR07 for that reason.
