I never owned HM5s or any of it's brethren but I bought a clone from Aizer for $50 from a well known online retailer. I didn't expect much from them and I just wanted to harvest the pads because I have 6 different cans that can use them. These Aizers come with a set of velour pads and a set of protein leather. Compared to my nicest cans, modded T40RPs mkIII, I was pleasantly surprised how good they sounded for what amounts to $25-$30 cans. Pads by themselves come at a pretty penny.

Hi guys. Sorry for the necro. Where do I get some balanced cables that fit the hm5? I want to use the 4.4mm output on my Sony zx300
Meze, Hart Audio, Plussound, I'm sure Amazon as well as other sites/companies have them. I recently got the HM5 and they were Defective On Arrival, customer service refused to do crap despite brand new and full warranty, so gutted them and replaced internals with V-Moda XF2 parts, changed up the sound for the better. I have Meze Audio's 99 Classics which also take dual 3.5mm thin connectors, worked like a charm. This was when trying the cans initially with my desktop setup as portable was schitt, & have custom Hart ones for the Classics. Here are mine I completed yesterday:

That looks proprietary with a locking connection. If there is enough clearance in your earcups, a 2.5 mm connection (especially one with a longer metal shaft) may work. However, no guarantees without testing it with your headphones. There are similar issues with Beyer T1 and Sonorous headphones, which use 3.5 mm connectors. The newest T1's (gen. 3?) need a longer shaft than prior versions of the Beyer and A&K branded T1's
