I've been using a pair of second-hand HD558s for about 5 years now, and the inside wall of the pads have detached to reveal the inner foam, and it's somewhat annoying.

Back in the day when I was more in touch with the audio scene, I've heard alot about about how non-OEM sennheiser replacement pads were trash, and how they ruined the sound for the headphones.

But it's now 2023, and I'm wondering if this is still the case. Are there any non-OEM pads to fit my 558s that aren't trash these days?

My strategy is go to Aliexpress and buy 3 pairs of $6-$7 pads and one of them will sound good and fit. Just keep track opening the packages so you know which is the good one to reorder. The best aftermarket pads I've ordered from is Wang Yifei which are more than the Aliexpress stuff, but they always fit the rings. Sennheiser has a parts page and if you sign up for the newsletter it gives you 10 percent off a first purchase.
