I've done some electronic stuff, but never dealt with potentiometers. I want to make a simple stepless analog volume control for use with my D2 at home, and have a few Q's. First of all, what value does it have to be? 10k, 100k etc? Second of all, will using one affect audio quality in any noticable way?

10kΩ is a pretty common value, but it depends on your circuit (what are you building?). The potentiometer has the potential to affect SQ, but if you use a high quality pot the effect should be very small and probably not noticeable. I like the Panasonic EVJ-C20 or a good Alps.

Only thing i want is a analog volume control for my D2... because i can use a pot and nothing else, right?

What about using an in-line attenuator then?
