will upgrading to a better sound card change the sq?

I would guess a sound card like the Asus Xonar DX or D1 sound card (used $50-$65), with their CS4398 DAC chip, should offer some audio quality improvement over on-board audio.

Or maybe get the Hifimediy Sabre USB DAC, $50-$60

Probably true, but the OP didn't say what his computer is, laptop or desktop, PC or Mac.  A few years ago I'd have said without reservation that you can always improve in the integrated sound card.  Today, there are a few that are good enough that the investment isn't always worth it.

So, OP, what to you have?
