Hello All,

I've bought a couple of the King Crimson box sets and single 40th anniversary reissues. Contained, are discs (DVD-A and BluRay) that have hi-res tracks in 24/96. However, my two BluRay players (Sony and Panasonic) will output these tracks no higher than 24/48, according to the clock on my RME ADI2. I called RME support and they said it's definitely the player downsampling the resolution.

Regardless of how I adjust the audio settings on the players (e.g. selecting PCM instead of Bitstream, etc.) the clock on the RME continues to show it's receiving lower resolution than what the disc is meant to provide. I've tried both optical and coax to connect the player to my RME.

Main question: Do I need a higher-end or special BluRay player to play the LPCM and MLP 24/96 files?

I called Crutchfield and while the tech did not know why my current players were not up the task of hi-res, he recommended I look into the Panasonic DP-UB820 ($399 USD) for an "audiophile level" BluRay player at the entry-level.

Thank you in advance!!!

Merry Xmas to you (and everyone) as well!!

My two players are Panasonic DMP-BDT360 and Sony BDP-S6500.

I read online that I may want a gadget called an HDMI Extractor that will allow me to convert the HDMI audio to optical or coax. Never heard of such a thing, but maybe a solution?

Manual on your Sony don't give any info on what bit and sample rate it support.
The Panasonic have some buts (see page 25 of your manual).

Yes, best bet to is a Hdmi audio extractor. It's not expensive.
