I got a nice new Denon 7.2 channel stereo for Christmas and I wanted to buy some nice stereo plug adapters so that I can listen to all my earphones that have a 3.5mm plug. I know what type of adapter plug it is but was wondering if they vary at all in quality and if I should buy one for cheap or spring for something made a little better. I also would like to know if I can use plugs with three poles or just two? I plan on using this extension cable so I can sit across the room on the couch.... https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021819&p_id=10147&seq=1&format=2

For the 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter plug this one is the best selling on Amazon but is it any good or could you suggest something else if it’s not?

Hey there,
I've got no real recommendations for adapters... I just use the freebies that come with my headphones or amps (they seem to work fine... So I guess I'd recommend just getting a cheap one?). The place I might splurge a little is on the cable-- a bad cable can degrade the sound. I'd recommend something made with Mogami 2549. This one looks good. Bulk 2549 can be bought from redco.com for 80¢/foot, if you're handy with a soldering iron... even if you're not handy with a soldering iron, it's a great way to learn.

But I do want to make a couple of clarifications: what you want is a 3.5mm to 6.3mm (1/8" to 1/4") adapter, not 6.3 to 3.5. Confusingly, a lot of Amazon vendors get this backwards.
Also, the poles on a plug like this are the conductive metal parts, not the black rings (which are insulators). For regular, single-ended stereo you want 3 poles (called TRS, which you linked), for balanced you want 4 (TRRS) or 5 (TRRRS) poles, and mono is 2 poles (TS). T=Tip, R=Ring, S=Sleeve

Anyway, it seems like you know what you want, I just wanted to clarify so that people reading your post don't get confused. You might want to edit your title, though.

Receiver (& stereo speaker amplifiers) headphone jack usually have a high output impedance (Ohm), headphones in the 250-Ohm to 600-Ohm work best plugged into a receiver/stereo
So headphones with a low impedance (Ohm) usually do not sound good plugged into a receiver/stereo headphone jack.

For a 3.5mm (1/8") female to 6.35mm (1/4") adapter, check out the
Shure HPAQA1

Be careful if you get a screw-on or "locking" one like the Shure-- if your headphone's plug isn't either very small or have the correct threading, getting a proper fit with a recessed jack can be difficult/impossible.
