The pads are interchangeable though.
Should fit like a glove.

Quad designed the driver, than they looked for a transducer maker company, those are able to making that driver based on Quad's plan. That's it. That is Quad driver. I'm sure that driver is protected by the contract between Quad and IAG, so that driver is implemented only in Quad products.
There is no any conspiracy theory behind this.
I have read the HiFiNews review. I see nothing in the review that says that Quad or IAG are actually manufacturing the planar driver.
Its a conspiracy to make them sound very good......
I have not said the pads are interchangeable.
As a matter of fact, I posted photos to show you that the Quad cup, the frame, is larger then the Alara..
However, after a close examination, it is a fact that both headphones can use the same pads, even tho the Quad headphone is a larger headphone, overall.
So, the Alara more Audeze sound, than Hifiman, forexample?
Could you compare to the LCD2C?
That has good price/value ratio in my opinion, about sound quality.
Do you think they are the same driver with different tuning? (Alara and Quad)
