Q701 impressions thread

Relax, man.
It's just my opinion.

Based on my humble experience, I did not hear any burn-in with either my DT880 600 Ohm cans or my Q701 or my SRS-2170 system.
I have other weird beliefs if anyone is interested!

Same here: break-in had no audible effect on my DT 880 600 ohms.

Should be that famous guy from porn industry.
edit: It is Ron Jeremy.

Ah.......The Hedgehog.

Never seen any of his work.
I'm sure he uses a stuntman for his "scenes".

Actually... the only reason he has any scenes in the first place is because he is the stunt double.  No one wants to see that face.  I often ask how he got into the industry because he's not that much bigger than two of me.

After reading some forums regarding about the 1/8th ratio for amp compatibility, I wonder if the Meier Stepdance 2 amp and a DACport LX setup would be a nice fit for the Q701.  What is your opinion about the sound signature of these devices?  Anyway, I still don't know what to look for when I see the product's technical spec in order to determine the ratio.

hi all,
just got my Q701 about a week now and had 50hr on them.
currently using zero dac franken mod with audio-gd moom opamp.
i feel it didn't bring out the full potential of Q701.
can anyone suggest me a better amp and cable? (budget of us$300-400)

I use a Little Dot MK3, which is great after some tube rolling. I've found that Sylvania JAN black plates really do the trick -- a tidbit of warmth, with a great soundstage and balanced lows/mids/highs. I'm sure some other tube amps would work well too.

I got some K601 pads in today. They're flat and a little different than Q701 pads. Q701 pads seem harder.
On the Q701 they do seem to make the upper mids and treble a little smoother or reduced a little.
There is a lot less bass and warmth though. No doubt. Not sure how on earth I got less warmth with less treble/upper mids.

I was listening to some tracks and they're really bad on the Q701 with K601 and K400 pads.
One is a crappy recording I found from The Fray called "Syndicate". I would like to hear that on a ruler flat set of studio monitors. On the Q701 with K400/K601 pads it's like listening to a headphone with no bass. Basically thin and tinny sounding.
The Q701 pads add a little warmth and some bass. Sounds OK then. I just wouldn't be able to know how it's really supposed to sound. That track sounded different on all my headphones!

That song is really smooth on the K400 EP, but sounds totally without bass. Sort of like hearing it on an AD700 with rolled off treble

It's interesting that you can't really hear how muffled that track really is on the Q701. I only heard it on the HD-598, HD-650 and DJ100.

I've weeded out all my harsh tracks and theres even some that can be fatiguing even on my HD-650!

TL;DR:

K601 pads on Q701

Smoother treble and upper mids
Less bass/warmth
Smaller soundstage
What the heck?
Low mids less forward

Don't really like at all...

A lot of guys use the Matrix M Stage amp with Q701. Personally I like the M Stage with an LM4562 Op Amp.

Most folks use the stock cable.
