PS3 as desktop computer...Possible?

Really, everyone here is very much correct. A 2.5Ghz P4 is nothing to scoff at, they are actually fast machines. Also, if you're willing to use YDL then by all means just pop in the ubuntu cd and install it. Backup your important data and don't look back. Ubuntu runs 'like butter' (must say it steve jobs style), especially on relatively fast machines such as yours.

And if you don't need/care for the sticky, gooey, fancy-pants features and look of Gnome or KDE, try Xubuntu, which runs more like trans-fats on a hot griddle
