I'm currently looking into the Matrix M-Stage and Schiit Asgard...
 
Can anyone please comment on which would best? I'd also like to use the amp with a pair of DT880 250s. My budget max is $300. The Asgard seems to be cheaper, offers more piece of mind in terms of hassle free purchase and was also recommended over the M-Stage on Headfonia.com. However, lots of people here seem to prefer the Matrix...

I can't comment on the M-Stage, but I have heard the Asgard with the HE-500 and 400, and both headphones sound phenomenal with the Asgard. However, the HE-400 isn't particularly difficult to drive anyway. You won't go wrong with either.
