Tried my hand for a little night photography. Kinda rough, but here it is. I wish the boat was a little more in focus.
EDIT: All these pics are straight out of camera. No editing at all.
Fuji X-Pro1, Fuji 10-24mm lens (first time using this lens seriously, quite nice, though don't have Lightroom profiles yet). First shot was handheld on a railing, second on tripod, third lucky placement on a flat rail post (I ran up to the platform when I heard the trains coming so no time for tripod). Click through to flickr for full exif details.
"saturated whites and overblown colors" - I think you have that backwards (saturated whites doesn't make much sense )? Also, some of that is due to my processing, it's not that unusual for me to do something like this with my 6D too. I happen to like the look of the Fuji for street shooting (though the 6D is *much* better at night because better DR and sensitivity)

I just tweaked @mathi8vadhanan photo to what I think appears to be better looking (just a few tweaks with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, no real Photoshopping):
(Of course, I will remove the photo if you want me to.)
