Hi,

I'll get a headphone amp for free next week from my friend and he sent me the spec of his headphone amp but I'm not sure if it is any good. Could anyone help with these numbers and let me know if this amp is any good and if it can drive AKG 701 and AKG 550 headphones? I know it is a gift so I'll take it and say THANKS - it is just that I would like to know something about the spec and these numbers before I test it.  This is my first post so sorry if the question is stupid.

Here are the details:

Inputs: -20dBu nominal, 120kohms. Gain: 30dB. Response: 20Hz-20kHz, +/- 1dB. Distortion: 0.2% maximum, +10dBu, 600 ohms. Noise: Better than -65dBu, maximum volume.

Output: +12dBu maximum (into 600 ohm load), 50ohms, to suit headphones 25 ohms to 2kohms. Power source: 12V-18V DC, 45/55mA maximum at 12/18V.

Thanks a lot

50 ohms output impedance is definitely too high for your AKGs...
