There seems to be limited options for DAP's that play Tidal or similar. Is this an area that is about to unfold? Surely streaming is the future for a lot of audiophiles?

LG V10. Best implementation of ESS Sabre dac and amp natively bypassing the snapdragon dac if u are wanting a mobile solution.

Theres loads of daps out there that will play Tidal.
Pioneer xdp
Onkyo DP-X1
AK100ii,120ii,240,320,380
Fiio X7
acoustic research m2
Sony zx1 and ZX2
Sony 886
any phone
ipod touch 5 and 6g
Ak100/120 with chromecast audio.

Im sure ive missed a few.

I will also add you can turn any headphone amp into a streaming dap by connecting the chromecast audio.

Or just use the chromecast audio on its own it will drive most headphones directly from its output(using phone to stream and control volume)

I didn't think the AK's would play Tidal or Spotify.

Of course but wifi is everywhere and you can also use your phone as hotspot.
Sorry. I just realised how dim my question sounded! What I meant is will the AK store offline content, allowing playback where there is no WiFi, i.e. Underground on the tube?

i haven't been able to test the fiio and ak on wifi, but from fiddling around with them i do not think they will be able to download and store offline albums. so far the only DAP i've succesfully done that with is the Sony NW-Z2, although i believe the recent change to spotify's storage has caused some problem there?

From reading, a lot of DAP's are optimised for playing music that is actually downloaded to the device and uses a secondary, inferior circuit for streaming.
I am looking for a DAP that is optimised for Tidal. Otherwise I guess I am better with a phone and external DAC/ amp.
It amazes me that companies such as OPPO are bringing out DAP's with no wifi capability.

Yea man I think you are better off using a phone + DAC. Ive pondered this and I dont think any premium DAP would have a decent UI for android apps. I too am looking for the ultimate portable rig.
