They will be powered by a new iPod Nano. It's been a while since I looked at this category, But 2 years ago, the K81DJ was the thing, cheap, great sound, even though it had a cord that was way too long. I was an early champion of this phone, great for the price.

However, K81DJ was also not especially durable, it easily bent out of shape and could break off when you tried to bend it back into shape. Hopefully your suggestion is better built.

Looking for a good/great portable on-ear phone with a cord that is not made for a home system (like the K81DJ cord that was way too long). Needs to have a cord that is suitably short enough for portable use, 1/8" jack. I don't care if I look like a dork, so the phones can be large, so long as cord is short for a portable application. Must be easily driven by a Nano.

The kind of phone I'm looking for could look like any of these cans:

Surely you can reterminate a long cord into a shorter one, Markl?

I know most folks don't like to mix business and pleasure, but that's like a 5 minute job and you've likely got a few 1/8" plugs lying around.

I can, but even my own partner in the cable business does not work for free.

I would prefer a headphone made for portable use, with a cord made for portable use.

As a AT big fan, I suggest the ESW9 or ESW10.

Ooops. OK $599, yeah, that's a bit out of my range.

Let's say, under $170. There seem to be a dozen or so AT cans, in this design and price range from $50-$170.
