My new MS2 is surprisingly picky with amplification - the Millet works fine, my cheap SS doesn't (too bright, no soundscape).

According to a nerd in the german forum, middle priced portable amps such as Meier Porta Corda or the new Headphonia only provide little (if not to say none) improvements for low Ohm fons.

Thus I've nailed it down to 2 solutions for a "balcony portable"
  1. The precious Ray Samuels’s Tomahawk, specially designed for low ohm consumers (~300$)
  2. A selfbuilt RA1 with 9V block battery feeding (~20$) - sweet priceless synergy? I've got no clue about these things, but a colleague is electro technician and willing to help.

For mere financial reasons, I'd prefer the latter solution. I could afford the Tomahawk only after excessive ebaying.

My main question about the RA1 is its performance in respect of soundstage. The remainder (tone, dynamics, etc.) seems to be fine acc. to elder threads I've read.

Any opinions and experiences are welcome.
