On the top of the element not visible in the picture will be a word.
Could be "basic" could be "pro" could be "signature" etc...
Thats the indication of the quality level of the heaphone.
From the looks of the cable i would say "basic" as the other two
had a slightly different cable.
That also looks like the 5 pin plug, not the 6 pin, which would mean
pro (580v) bias.

Looks like the oldest non-Pro Lambda version. I don't know the sonic difference between the two versions, but take care not to pay too much. You might have difficulties finding a Stax amp with corresponding output, save you go for the higher models which have both 230- and 580-volt outputs -- but that would be overkill IMO.
I won't buy any amp by no means.. I would build KGSS if I got that deal, so it wouldn't cost me that much.. I plan on spending at most $150 on these, is it wise?

Sounds reasonable enough. But then again your planned KGSS will cry for a better headphone and you'll end up spending much more money than you've originally planned...
