Pictures Of Your Portable Rig (part XV)

Great rig.  I came so close to buying a set of the ESW9's.  How is the bass on them?  When I had a test listen between them and the DT1350 I liked the bass on the ESW's much better but liked the top end of the DT's.  I still wonder how they would compare post burn in. Plus, the wood finish looks great.

Did you do the solid state conversion?

Here are some old school shots that I thought that I would dig out and share with Headfi.

I can remember saving for that Walkman for ages.  It must be approx 1983 model.  The mini disc player is probably approx 1997.  Not sure about the ipod shuffle...but it is huge at 512mg.  :)  These days I complain about my ipod 160gb classic not having enough storage.  Times certainly change.....

I love the old school tapes too.  A TDK MAXG in the cool alloy shell and the Sony in a full ceramic shell.  That was cutting edge I am sure.

I guess that I should have added in some md media too to the pic...  They looked great in their day with funky coloured casing.

While were on the topic of tapes, do they have kind of an analog type sound?  It's been such a long time since I've listened to tapes so I'm curious.

I havent listened to any in ages.  I still have an almost new Yamaha double cassette deck at my parents house.  I think that it has only ever played about 4 tapes.  The sound lacks dynamic range compared to Cd but that is from memory.

Here we go.

iPod Classic >> Mundorf LOD >> ZO2 >> Turbine Pro Golds.

Just actually switched the case of the iPod from black to silver - so it looks like new!! (for the next 20 minutes anyways..).

The sound quality of cassette tapes varies wildly. There are many different tape materials, noise reduction schemes, etc. With a good source, noise reduction scheme and recording/playback decks you can definitely do better than the pre-recorded tapes.

This is all from ancient memory of course

And the fact that tapes and age never go well together .

Gee.....  And I thought that I get heaps of funny looks with my CLAS/Rx2 rig.....  :)

Is that a portable rig or just transportable?  It looks quite big in the Triad kind of way.
