I was at an estate sale a couple of days ago, and sitting the a table was a pristine pair of AKG K240s headphones.  I snagged them for $5.  I attempted to use them on my MacBook air and my iPhone, but the volume output is super low.  I then amplified them with my Fiio E7 portable amp.  The volume is much better, but even with the amp maxed out it is still a bit low.  Any of you have a good amp recommendation for the K240s headphones?  Portable and desktop versions are needed, and $250 is about the max I can spend on either.

Thanks.

The C&C BH is a great little portable amp for $100. I have one and like it better than my E17, which is generally considered a better headphone amp that than the E7. You might ask in the C&C BH discussion thread to see if anyone has upgraded from the E7 and what kind of difference they think it would make: http://www.head-fi.org/t/644363/c-c-bh-portable-headphone-amp-80-hours-from-a-single-charge-buyer-review

Speaking of the E17, have you considered getting a separate DAP to use instead of you iphone for portable use? The soon-to-be-released FiiO X3 uses the same hardware as the FiiO E17. So the headphone amp is all built in. See these two threads for more info:

I'm assuming you have 600-Ohm K240s.
My Fiio E11 can drive my AKG K240 Monitor 600-Ohm headphones, so maybe go for the newer Fiio E12.
My O2 amp can very easily drive the AKG K240 Monitor 600-Ohm also.
I think of the O2 amp as a good "semi-portable" headphone amplifier.

ALO Audio MKll portable amp (now $100 off the old price) drives my 35 year old AKG K240 no problem.  Have you dated the the 240's you picked up?  Wikiphonia has the pics.

Old thread, but I just wanted to verify that the Fiio E12 pushes the K240 sextett very well and they seem to have great synergy (better I find than with the C&C BH).
