Ive read of a lot of people complAining about this headphone low end.

I'm not recommend the mods as with the money you spend on mods to make it thump more you can buy something better.

But it can thump. I put these on again after a while. One with ring and velour and the other Sony xb pads. The difference it's huge.

If people who say there it's Zero bass in this thing order the xbpads eBay has some for 14-25US and get those 3d cups. Again I'm not saying to do it nor do I recommend the mods per se but if you really want to see this can rumble. Try it.

In no way I'm saying this is giant killer orhifior anything like that. But there is BASSS potential!!!!

$14 US for xb 1000 pads. $5-10 for xb500/700

If you a balla get the alpha pads

I can't tell if you're talking about the bass on the SE-A1000s or the SHP9500s. If it's the latter, I find the bass on the 9500s perfectly fine, actually. It could extend further down (a common problem with open backs), but claims of the SHP9500s having poor bass are greatly exaggerated.

Just add ~2 db at 40 hz and you're good. They have the power, they can handle it just fine.

If it's the Pioneers... I wouldn't know. I'm not interested in them.

I find Golden Ear reviews pretty accurate when it comes to FR:

InnerFidelity is my trusted source.

I had the SHP9500 and it did not sound at all like how the Golden Ears graphs imply.

I would say the graph is pretty consistent with how I hear them. They follow the HTRF pretty nicely but everything is slightly boosted. Kind of like a an AD900X but with a more forward lower midrange and higher peaks in the high mids and treble. What the graph doesn't show is the very grainy and etched quality to the treble that the 9500 possesses. If I could get past that they would be great, but at the price I guess we aren't in a position to complain too much.

Which part you thought it did not match what you heard?
BTW: Your link seem to have not test for the SHP9500

For me, I heard this HP for the first time a week ago, and it is actually one of the very few open back HP I can stand.
I am currently listening a loaner from a friend of mine, but what I am hearing so far is extremely good.
Considering the price, I think this is one of the best deals out there.
For me, bass is there, in the recording that actually have it. But I'm not a bass-head either.

I do think the SHP9500 is one of the best open headphones under $100. The only one in that category that I have owned that is clearly better is the vintage STAX SR-30.

Yes, alas, Tyll has not gotten his hands on it for whatever reason.

Well, the Golden Ears graph makes it look like it has very strong bass...and it's not like that.

(It's mainly because of the compensation curve they use. If you ignore that and just look at their measured frequency response, it looks more normal that way. But I'm sure they measure headphones in a different way than InnerFidelity does. Plus Golden Ears only shows smoothed measurements, while InnerFidelity publishes raw ones.)

The M50x is an example of a headphone with overwhelmingly strong bass that interferes with the rest of the sound.

However, to Golden Ears' credit, their measurements of the M50x align with InnerFidelity's, as well as what I hear.

Also, here is my neutral reference, just to have a more meaningful point of comparison.

One special mention should go to comfort.
This is the first HP which, for my head+ears shape, rivals, if not exceed, the MDR7506 comfort.
Which are at the level of not having anything on my head, essentially.

Yep, from memory I can't decide whether the HD 800, HD 700, or SHP9500 is most comfortable.

Ironically though, the on-ear headphones I'm using right now (Koss KTXPRO1) have even more of a "don't notice I'm wearing it" quality. But I don't want to say they'd be more comfortable for others, because my ears/head are probably smaller than average.

The hype has cooled with all the headclamp issues so its balanced out now.

Also too many other nice options under a bill nowadays with like status audio offerings under 100
