Does D-90 have Mega Bass? I forgot... I've seen both D-90 and D-99 before at the pawn shop, and one of them doesn't have Mega Bass if I remember correctly...

Actually it's silver paint... the lighting can be misleading... hehe

Do you still have the D555, or has it been shipped off to its new owner?

I'd like to see a comparison between the two if possible

The D-555 is happily in it's new home, so I won't be able to make that comparison. I've actually sold off a half dozen of my pcdp's lately, so the collection is thinning out. I'm down to only eight or nine of them

In listening on Saturday, a friend who was over rated the Turbo D-25s, driving a Melos SHA-1 into RS-1 headphones, as clearly better than anything else we listened to, including DCP-150 and D-303. I'm a bit slower in reaching a conclusion, and will try and post some detailed sonic comparisons as time allows.

Hmm...

I think there could need to be a revision to the 'D-E905' part of my review...

I mentioned that it was when 'Digital MegaBass' was introduced... although after seeing this auction (for which i'm currently the high bidder

) it appears that Digital MegaBass could have been released up to five years earlier than I first thought...

...The D151 is from 1992/3 isn't it?

Thanks

Hahaha, it is amusing to use these sources with such associated hardware! It is like the pic Hirsch posted of his R-10s being driven by a PCDP. But it is, of course, the best test for these PCDPs.

Duncan,
Thanks again for this wonderful review. It is great to read it in restroom longer visits

.
I understand most of your overall ratings, except the D25S' one. Let's see:
D50: 4,4,4,0 = 4
D555: 5,4, 5,1 = 4
D311: 5,5,5,1 = 5
D141: 2,2,2,2 = 2
D777: 4,4,4,3 = 4
DE905: 3,5,4,4 = 4
DEJ1K: 2,2,3,5 = 2
No problems here, outputs are leading the rating, but
D25S: 3,3,5,1 = 2

Doesn't make sense.
Can you explain that?

Sacriste...

The curious rating is because to my ears the player can sound pretty good when its playing what its happy with, but when it isn't happy... it really lets it be known...

Enjoyable sound, but lack of consistency loses it some marks in my opinion...

I knew that you had a good answer for that!
I insist that would be great if you could add the famous SLC-T470/570 and the cheap D33. (Voice of child) Pleeease...

I'm currently bidding on a D33 on Ebay

As to the Panasonics... if anyone wants to lend me one...??

hey duncan,

i got my pana sl-s150 if you wanna try it. but it is a league lower than the d25s i received today. although the d25s has been turbo modified by toro_bull.

i wouldn't mind letting you borrow it, but the shipping is gonna cost very much.
