I've had a lot on that list. With the Sennheiser HD600 you can't go wrong. The Hifiman he5xx is a great value for money and I use one every day because they're so comfortable. The Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro X are also excellent and no amplifier needed.

Iv'e tried out the HD600 a while ago and i liked them but how do they compare against the hd6xx? I heard that it sounds warmer than the 600.

To that add the Meze 109 Pro which can be had for a little over $500.00 used. I think I've seen them for sale on Head-Fi classified.
I have owned Sennheiser HD-600 and, a HD-560 I think, and they would be great choices.
I'm a fan of Audeze planars, but most choices will be over your price range. I haven't heard the MM-100. Used LCD-2s can come close. They are heavy, but very good sounding.

I have a Sundara and 58X. Totally different headphones. You either like them for what they are or you hate one and like the other. Of course you may hate both :relaxed:.

No idea about the others.

I assume you have budgeted in a half decent DAC/Amplifier.

I was thinking about about the LCD-2's..... Maybe.....

I liked the LCD-2 sound. I found them heavy for long listening sessions. That said, I now have LCD-4z Audezes which are very close in weight and I don't have issues.
I do think the LCD-2 series is a very good value.

I have hd600's which are my best headphones so far, and the akg k712's which I don't like half as much, although may need burning in. For casual listening though use Hifi-man he-4xx which are under half the budget, but super comfy, so looking to upgrade to Arya stealth at some point. The akg's though (had k612) just need lots of burning in.

My suggestions though are around half your budget, so not in the same league.

Also had the akg k612's, which were my favorite until I wrecked the plug, and non replacable cable so minus points there. But very good for the monies. Just stick with 1/4 inch jack tho. And also k271mkii, definately in a lower class, but good cans for school use. But not hi-fi in my opinion. And also k141's, my first decent headphones, did the job, again not considered hi-fi.

I was never really in the 500 dollar club though, now considering Arya stealth. Even hd600's are a lot less. Beware, as costs go up perceived marginal increase in listening excellence may be marginal. In other words, paying a lot more per dollar for better hi-fi the higher in cost you go up. Then you have to ask yourself if your ears can hear the difference.

This is true, considering how well can 20$ IEMs sound its like a night and day difference than something like the earbuds that come included in some phones.

What headphones have you heard that you like/don't like?

What sort of classical/jazz? Small scale, large scale? Accurate or more lively sort of sound?

Equipment that goes with it matters
