From “Your Favorite Quotes” thread.:

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.

Its in your best interest.
I'm sitting in my room, and my mom and my dad came in

They pulled up a chair and they sat down

They go, "Tri, we need to talk to you"

And I go, "Okay, what's the matter?"

They go, "Me and your mom, we've been noticing lately you've been having a lot of problems

And you've been going off for no reason

And we're afraid you're gonna hurt somebody

And we're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself,

So we decided that it would be in your best interest if we put you somewhere you could get the help that you need"

And I go, "Wait, what are you talking about?

We decided?! My best interest?!

How do you know what my best interest is?

How can you say what my best interest is?

What are you trying to say? I'm crazy?!

When I went to your schools

I went to your churches

I went to your institutional learning facilities!

So how can you say I'm crazy?!

I'm not crazy! (Institution!)
You're the one that's crazy! (Institution!)
You're driving me crazy! (Institution!)
They stick me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect from the enemy, myself

It doesn't matter, I'll probably get informally banned from this thread anyway...

"On Tyranny" by Timothy Snyder - supplies the manner in which to deal with the *tyranny* of this thread and the tyranny to come if this country becomes an "illiberal" Democracy. Any dissent welcome on PM.

What goes on in the Field makes the Head Office in D.C. look bad - Natasha Watson - 11th highest paid person on the HUD payroll

I fought them all at once, fought hard as I could, took the fight to them, was beat from the start and everybody knew it but me.

Because I was just that dumb.

Where's my Robin Hood outfit...

The path to enlightenment is found trough suffering. I had a long way to go, it took a group effort on all fronts and four years to get this far.

Thank you all, each and every one of you, I couldn't have done it without you.

But to forgive is divine and I'm just not there yet.
