Will tomorrow be the day? 9 weeks to the day from my impressions being received at the lab...

For the folks who recently received their custom Encores, what are your first impressions?

I'm looking forward to the 10 hour plane ride tomorrow because I will listen to the Encore for most of that time!  Rock on!

How much would a 1:1 wizard universal run you?

Head Fi member Layman1 put me onto to the Wizard Universal Katana project.   He asked if it could be done, and I had a suspicion that it could be done.

As far as the price, we plan on offering it just as all the other Wizard Universals are (200 additional fee on top of regular retail price)

PM if you have any special requests

First impression was pretty damn good. Coming from the OG K10 (custom) and the Katana (Universal), the Encore was just what the doctor ordered. It's got the warm-ish musicality and bass slam of the K10, but with a big helping of clarity and soundstage from the Katana as well. When I really want to kick back, especially with less-than-stellar recordings, I still reach for the K10 sometimes. When I want as much clarity and soundstage as possible for classical and acoustic recordings, I go for the Katana. But if I had to pick just one headphone to do it all, it's Encore all the way. And for rock (anything from folk to symphonic death metal), neither the K10 or the Katana can touch the Encore. That combination of bass slam and high end with the sweeeet mids just can't be beat! Absolutely loving them for electronic music as well. This one is currently on heavy rotation in the Siim household:

For me personally, I feel the Linum SuperBax would be better when it is released.

I sold my SuperBax when I went from 2.5mm TRRS (AK240) to 3.5mm TRS (Chord Mojo) and I miss it so much that I've been in touch with Linum just this morning about getting a 3.5mm TRS SuperBax. It's the perfect balance of sound sig and ergonomics, there's really only one downside:

Oh and there IS a way to do a blind A/B test with IEM cables... You just have to visit Linum and try these:

(sorry for posting non-Noble iems in this thread)

with this:

Et voila: Using dual-input iems and a switchbox you can now jump between cables at the twist of a knob. Was quite interesting to try!

So today was the day! Received pics of my finished Encore wizard reprints.

One slight problem, they're quite different from the reprint I requested, so just checking with Brannan & Sunny as to my options.

Part of me thinks it's fine, you'll be listening to them more than looking at them, but another part of me is thinking about how much they cost and that I really want to be satisfied across both the sound and visuals front.

Torn...
