It has a special IPX4 water/sweat/dust resistance rating, not some cheap plasticy cable that will wear off or slide around your neck. The part of the cable on the back is flat for a more comfortable fit around your neck, and the cable on the front is soft and round to go over your ear. Actually, it's very comfortable. Plus, it has a cable cinch on the back to tighten the cable so it stays tight if you wear IEMs over your ear and also works great for those with a cable down. But hey, sounds like you just had a brief testing with initial impression. I know, sometime you need more time to figure out the fit and the comfort. I spent the whole month using it before starting to work on my review, first impression can go either way
Regarding sound quality, which IEM did you used with BT Cable for testing? As I recently mentioned in W80 thread, I tested this BT cable with close to a dozen of different mmcx connector based IEMs (not just Westones, but many others - my full review is
here), and tested it both with my Note 4 which has aptx and Fiio X7 which doesn't have aptx, and in both cases the sound difference between BT cable and Epic or other premium replacement cables was very subtle. The only real difference was addition of a low level background hissing which is common with every other BT cable/dongle (people reporting AK XB10 to hiss a lot as well).
At some point, once I'm done with a current queue of reviews I'm working on, I will look into testing/comparing other BT cables. I know Lear has one (but with a battery life of a few hours, not sure if it supports aptx, and I believe it uses inferior CSR chip), and FiiO is coming up with their own bt cable soon, which looks cool. I'm sure there will be more budget releases, just like you'll find dozens of $20 bluetooth headphone models on amazon where they probably going to chop off earpieces and add some cheap mmcx or 2pin connectors.
In my honest opinion, the only real negative thing about BT cable is its price. I wish it would be under $100, or maybe they can offer it at a discount bundled price with other Westone iem purchases. AK offers XB10 free now with purchases of their flagship DAPs. If Westone is reading this thread, would be awesome to see a holiday bundle of W80 with a free BT cable
