Unrelated but for people interested in the official case for the a306/307, I got it from AliExpress for 44AUD/29USD (currently unavailable), and from what I can tell, if it is not the original it is very close to it. Checking some reviews from the original Sony store on Ebay jp I can see a lot of people complaining about it not being the best quality product Sony could offer for the original price, so I'm more than happy to have only spent half of the price of the original.

Looks identical to my Official Sony one.

For Sony Walkman devices(I have NWA306) does using a non-stock music player(I use Blackplayer) reduce music playback quality?

Also I do not have a PC with a line in. Only have a laptop with a standard 3.5mm jack. How can I test for bass drop? I compared its sound to Hidizs Ap-80ProX DAP i have and it sounds fine.

Sony Walkman Music and UAPP apps are bit-perfect and technically should sound better. Other apps use Android scalling or padding to 24/48 or 32/192, but if using Hi mode 32/192 would you hear the difference. Only your ears can tell.

The Walkman app also consumes less battery than other apps.

Hmm. I kinda agree because I noticed instruments like bass guitars, drums have a better attack on the Walkman music app(very minute difference )
But the Walkman app is horribly under optimised, does not work well with play, pause buttons(sometimes the physical buttons confuses the WalkmanApp and it hangs), lacks important functional features. Do you think Sony will release an update to fix the issue?


If I turn on bitperfect streaming in settings would I get that kind of good quality in my Blackplayer(I have music files in my memory card)
Also, what is a UAPP app? Also any leads regarding the bass drop issue i mentioned? I have bought from Sony India, which I believe falls under Sony Asia Pacific

Try forward/reverse seeking the music using the physical buttons.

Ever since A105, ZX507, WM1AM2 etc, the sound in Sony DAP's go through one of two paths termed Red/Blue (covered in this & other Sony DAP threads). The Walkman App is written in such a way it bypasses Android audio system directly accessing the Sony sound chip/amp and uses maybe 60% of the power that other apps do and tends to be about 8 volume steps lower for same output volume compared to other apps too, so less amp power for a given volume (I think).

UAPP uses its own audio driver so get around Android audio and detects the Sony internal 'DAC' but will still use more battery than the Walkman app. Extra battery use was more an issue with A100/ZX500 series that had weak battery life to start with.

I've never used 'seek' even in the old iPod days so will explain why I'm experiencing no issues, just play, pause, FWD mostly (I don't listen to podcasts). I also use the Sony BT remote more than the side buttons too anyway.

Walkman App & UAPP may not give same audio 'flavour' as UAPP uses its own audio driver, but both should be bit-perfect (except A300 series converts DSD to PCM first, not Native DSD).

ive noticed the sony loses quite a bit more battery in sleep mode than the ibasso dx170

im not sure why, may be google services? i have disabled most but kept drive on. the apps ive installed are the same as the ones present on the ibasso

I use mine mostly in "airplane mode", so no Bluetooth or WiFi, and have not noticed significant standby drainage. Do you have Bluetooth or WiFi permanently enabled?

yeah i leave it in airplane mode as well. at the moment looks like 2 percent an hour i think. the ibasso does 4 percent a night

iBasso battery is 3200mAh vs 1200mAh on Tiny Sony, so standby lose would have a greater % impact on a much smaller battery I'd have thought.

Check your usage under battery, and see what's using the juice. 2% an hour is very high. Also it takes a couple charge cycles for things to get settled. Mine doesn't use near that even with wifi on.

The ibasso will be better, the drain of android subsystems will be less % on that bigger ma battery.
