Hi Jude and all others interested.
You asked for feedback on the forum if there were things we did not like, so I would like to offer my advice.
I am having a hell of a time navigating the site. Things do not seem logically organized for me. I seem to be flooded with a wide range of content anywhere I go in on this website. Products this, wiki that, rate this, vote that, invite friends this, "
Hey There!
Glad to see that you're making your way around our community! Do you know if any of your friends are here? Look for friends." that, reviews this, who's online that...... all on the same page........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this drives me crazy. where is the focused content? Where is the logic, the flow, the simplicity. Gone, all gone.
The forum apperance is too large now. There is too much fluff padding all throughout the forum, too many boxy items. Text defaults to too large a value. There are huge spacings between different elements.
Here is a typical example of the spacing / large stuff problem in action:
Just look at how random it looks. Look at how much random white space there is in between elements. It's way to big. The amount of content I can look at at any one point in time is very small, which makes the new website hard for readability.
Speaking of large text, it makes me feel like I should make my font be 72px simply to overcome the large fonts used on the website. Old version of head-fi, pretty much all text was the same size. Now, the users text is much smaller than most other text. Maybe I should switch over to 72px, so others will be able to easily and clearly see my text from the rest of the forum.
Another thing I do not like is the 'rating' feature for posts. That is childish. Head-fi used to be a forum that had a somewhat mature air about it, especially when you compare it to other forums such as hardforum.com, or other social websites. Adding a 'rating' feature for individual posts brings the forum down to the level of a teenager. It gives the feeling that head-fi is trying to copy models of websites like youtube or facebook. This is a feature I would be happy to see removed. I also think it could serve to alienate the original audiance that head-fi had, specifically those interested in headphone related stuff. I know personally I feel very put off by the new forum methodology.
Another thing I would like to see removed is 'what users want'. Like hell! Some computer program telling me what 'users' want? Let me find out what users want on my own, by reading users comments, etc. This sort of stuff seems very invasive, and makes me less likely to want to revisit the website. I'm a smart person, so when things state things like "hey, would you like to..." or "others like this, perhaps you will to?" it bugs me.
Another thing I would like to see removed is the 'recent reviews'. If I'm interested in reading reviews, I'll go to the review section. This simply becomes distracting fluff when reading the regular forum pages. I think this is a straight forward problem.
