My son plays the bass and is always "borrowing" my Shure E5's for his practice sessions.  I want to get him his own in-ear monitors for his birthday in 2 weeks.

Like to keep it close to $100 or under.  His priorities are sound isolation and bass response.

What current IE phones would you recommend?

You just described the Shure SE215. noise isolation, extra bass, in-ear and around $100. and your son is already use to Shure sound signature. Look no further I have them, and for me are the best in-ear headphones around $100

The Shures stated above will work well.  Future Sonics Atrios will as well.  I haven't heard either though :frowning2:

Ultimate Ears UE500 may be an idea if you're looking for straight bass XD  I really can't think of too many.  I'm trying to come up with ideas that will work well for stage use (over ear design that doesn't stick out too far).  Possibly the A151 by MEE may be of use?

I'll drift away from the others and recommend Monster Turbines. For their going price now plus really nice packaging and accesroes they would make the perfect gift. They're bass orientated with decent isolation and all round a nice sounding earphone. I enjoy my pair for bassing out. $79 on Amazon.

You can find ljokerl's take on Turbines in this thread under Tier 2B
