This is my first time on head-fi and i wanted to know if i can connect a desktop amp to my desktop without a DAC as i already have Creative Xi-fi Titanium HD.

I got a pair of ath-m50s and plan to get either the xb-700 or xb-1000 or maybe the new mdr-1r. Btw what cable do you use to connect your sound card to your amp?

I have XB700 and XB1000 and often say that the best value of the series is extracted in XB700 if you're after a bass heavy headphone which sounds forward. Don't really enjoy XB1000 to be honest. Not heard MDR-1R, but rumors are that they are sub par compared to the now discontinued XB300, 500, 700 and 1000.

Yeap same here, normal RCA to 3.5mm cable shouldn't cost more than $20 or so maybe a tad more for a brand name

Just a tip. Not a huge believer in cables, but if you want cheap, good quality and no nonsense cables, check out Blue Jeans Cable. If I were in need of a 1/8 jack -> rca cable, I'd go with their BJC MSA-1 Audio Cable

I have already have a rca to 3.5mm cable since it came with the sound card, is there any huge difference between good and standard cables?

Sorry I wouldn't be able to help you there, I only have 1 cable so I can't make a comparison
