Hi everyone! looking to replace a pair of Sennheiser HD558. Those are ok but a litte too dark sounding for me. Plus I want a close-back head phone this time, and a replaceable cord.
Primarily I'd listen to these at home, through a TEAC UD-H01 dac, Onkyo TX-8050, and Onkyo C-7030. I'd mostly be listening to Jazz, Fusion, and Classical on CD or FLAC.
I like deep rich bass, but I hate mud, so clarity is as equally important. The HD558 meet this criteria but has too much mid bass muddiness. The HD598 is not that much of an improvement. My budget is up to $400 shipped. Thanks.
PS, I prefer something that doesn't need amping, I know its viewed as a popular thing, but I never saw head phones that "need assistance" to perform well as a good thing.
