That's what I thought too actually. Which leads me to think that it isn't simply aluminum...but some kind of other metal, or some other type of alloy.

On another note, it seems all companies are trying to factor in comfort as well nowdays, so the switch to wood could also have been to cut down the weight of the headphones. If you've ever worn an HP-1000 headphone, you would notice it's quite a deal heavier on the head then the typical headphone of today. The next heaviest 'phone I've had on my head would be the Stax Lambdas. Otherwise, none of the other dynamic headphones out there today come close to the weight of the HP-1000s, except maybe those Koss QZ-99s.

I think I agree with you. There *must* be some alloy, since if you were to make the *entire* headphone-including earpads-out of aluminum, they wouldn't be that heavy (although I've never worn Stax Lambdas, mebbe Tyll should bring some to the Northwest Gathering)
