It doesn't appear as though my MG Head uses the same capacitors as some of those I've seen cited in these forums.

This is from the Antique Sound Labs provided schematic of my MG Head DT:

C1 - Connects 12AX7 pin 1 to EL34(1) pin 2 = 0.1 uF / 400V
C2 - Connects 12AX7 pin 6 to EL34(2) pin 2 = 0.1 uF / 400V

Yikes. Only 0.1 uF coupling caps on the "new" MG Head?

Thoughts? Comments? Innermost desires?

The MG Head schematic I have shows a C1/C2 value of 0.1 UF at 400VDC. I would definatly put in a bigger cap here. Say .47 (easy to get film cap value) I would open that sucker up, grab the clip leads and due some experimenting. (do not use clip leads to do this if you aren't gonna be extra carefull) My 12ax7-6bq5 se amp uses .56 uf caps and I don't think I could ask for more bass.

My schematic says the same thing -- .1 uf coupling caps -- but when I pulled them out of the unit, the caps were actually .22uf.

You already know my thoughts on replacement sizes!

I've got 2 1.0uF/400V Hovland MusiCaps on the way....

Please let me know what you think of the Hovlands. I hear good things about them, but have yet to use them myself.
