since i'be been listening to classical, jazz and stuff like "the carpenters" on headphones like the k701 and ad700.
i want to try something different. something more forgiving on bad recordings and genres like electronic, pop, rock ect..
from various recommendations i narrowed it down to the audio technica a900x and esw9a.
portability is the least of my worries.
from what i heard the a900x is similiar to the esw9a.
there was a review saying the a900x sparkles but not fatiguing in the treble area, rich mids and good bass.
a900x is compared to k550 and a900 in some threads. (never heard the k550, a900, a900x and esw9a)
all these reviews and comparisons seem to confuse me because from time to time another person would come up
and disagree with what one person said.

Are you open to used gear?

I always found the K240s-55 a more forgiving headphone than my 701.  Its more of a groovy listen than the dry and analytical (at times) presentation of the 701.  It also has a deeper "V" curve though with more bass impact, which may or may not be to your liking.
