I'm looking to get a new pair of headphones but not really sure what to get. I listen to almost exclusively metal, basically every genre. Right now I was thinking the SR80s but that's basically all I've got in mind. I might be willing to increase my budget another 30-50 if there's something that's really worth getting.

I like SR80 a little better than MS1 for metal, but they are also more fatiguing, so the MS1 is still worthy of consideration. Don't forget Goldring DR150 if you need soundstage.

The SR-80s are great for metal.

MS-1 if you want open
ES-7 if you want closed (might be a little over 100 but not much).

I have both and either one does metal good.

SR-80s will give you the extra punch/kick in the mid bass region over the MS-1s and they aren't quite as bright.

If you can stretch your budget to ~$150, I would get a pair of SR225 used. They sound great with metal and are a large improvement over the SR80 or MS1.
