MDR-E484 --> E888... Is MDR-E747 Fontopias missing link?

Hello all. I still have my E747s as well but they don't work at all. :slight_frown:

I would LOVE to be able to repair them and actually took a long shot and emailed Sony. Probably won't hear anything back but it's worth a shot. I saw two on eBay recently for $499.99 and $450!!!! I was able to get to one driver and check the solder joints and test for conductivity in the cable and that was good. So it seems like the drivers are shot. Sad and frustrating because I've always taken care of them and never turned them up too loud.
Just buy a couple of available mdr-e741s on ebay, they have the same drivers like 743,747, as 472-484

They may look the same but could be different. I have both and the 747 sounds a little better.

I agree. this is an old post. I had the opportunity to make sure even "for digital" sounds much better than simple ones 741
How did your recable job go? I am thinking about recalling all my earbuds for balanced. Sad that the stock wires is singled end only as in 3 wires at the plug.

Hi Do you know if E747 AND E484 sound the same as in they have same drivers ?
They don’t sound the same and they don’t use the same driver. The 484 is a much better sounding earbuds. More expansive and sound like larger full-size headphones.

Yes. The 484 is legendary for the sound quality. If you have the fund, go for it.

Expansive sounding with excellent clarity and image placement for an earbuds. Good bass and very good details. Balanced and smooth frequency response. Honestly speaking, I would not pay more than $300 for them. They are over 30 years old. If you can find a NOS then pay up!

Agreed. I still have a pair of working E747s and IMHO, they're probably the finest earbuds that were made.

I reterminated them for 4.4 mm balanced and they sound even better. You should try Tom.
