Yesterday my new Marantz sa8001 arrived and I can only say this is a significant upgrade over the Sony scd ce595 I've been using!!! Unbelieveable!!! I've only listened for a couple of hours but the quality of the Marantz, both in build and sound, is awesome!!

Can't even imagine how good it will sound when finally burned in.

More later after we've shared some more quality time together!!!!!

Not bad, eh?

I went from the CE595 to the SA8001 in December '06. My guess is that you'll still be loving it in the long term. It scaled up nicely with the Zana, as well.

Give the internal amp a listen, too. It is not half bad.

And... If you want to try SACD "on the cheap," its a huge bargain.

Is it made in Japan ? SA8001 is not available in Australia. There is SA7001 but I think they are different in specification.

I don't think Japan makes anything anymore but the really technical components. Anyways, to addess the differences between the 7001 and 8001 alluded to in the quote. The only thing I've been able to comfirm is that the 8001 has a better PS (so its a bit heavier and must be quieter I suppose). Other than that they seem to be identical. Anyone else have anything to add? Sound comparisons between the two are very rare.

That's not it because the SA8001 weights more. Intergrated curicuts nowadays in this level of component for voltage differences are very good and very small. So that alone doesn't account for it. Price is different too as both are listed in Japan. Last I checked the 8001 is about 20,000 yen more expensive. Except that i got my 7001 at a fire sale for a great price so the difference was even greater.

The SA-8001 sounds especially good with Senns and Denons. Its clarity and detail compliments phones with a warmer, liquid sound.

Along with the sa8001, I got a great deal on a used Marantz pm7001 integrated amp. I purchased some new speaker cables, "10 white", from Blue Jean Cables and I'm in total audio heaven!!! My home system has never sounded better!

Using the sa8001 thru my LDmkIII with my hd580's is sonic bliss! My home speaker system is sonic bliss! Sometimes I can't decide wheter to listen with headphones or speakers!

And it's like rediscovering my entire cd collection!

These Marantz components are impressive indeed!!!!!!!

Check out the 840C threads... and see the comments of "daltonlanny." I think there are a few others also.

The "bottom line" is they report the SA-8001 sounds just as good as the 840C and Saturn.

I wouldn't know... haven't heard the others... but... I can assure you the sound of the SA-8001 is "pure magic." It is a "huge bargain" at its "after-market" price of around $600-700 on Audiogon.

And... its particularly great with phones that benefit from added detail and clarity of their set up - such as Senns and Denons.
