I'm shocked that such a vacuous musical novelty like Madonna can outsell the likes of Bowie. Especially considering that he has been making records for quite a bit longer than her too. What is this world coming to?

I must admit I'm not terribly surprised or outraged by Madonna. Bowie's music didn't really start selling until after Let's Dance, and to some degree that was aided by the post-disco climate that Madonna's music ushered in. Creatively speaking, I'm much more annoyed by someone like Celine Dion, though her sales figures don't shock me, either.

Agreed, she's one of the few artists that has changed with the times and kept selling more and more.

Madonna's done a lot more creatively than the current rubbish attests to.

Regardless, Bowie's targetted at introverted social drifters like you and me. We've never held sway over the sales charts. As others have stated, there's no reason to feign shock.
