In the version of Mad World on the Donnie Darko soundtrack, there's this fluff-fluff-fluff business going on in the left channel at the beginning of the song before Michael Andrews starts singing. I hadn't noticed it before but after making some tweaks to my SR60, it's driving me nuts. I don't hear it on any other tracks and I don't hear it later in the song. It really starts about 3 seconds in. There's even what appears to be a female voice, cut short, at about 7 seconds in.

What gives? Some of you, with the big rigs or the golden ears or just a greater familiarity with this version of the song, can you enlighten me any? What is that fluff-fluff-fluff business? It almost sounds like someone trying to mark out a rhythm like a metronome but in a very muted way.
