Sorry to have to make another one of these threads but I've reached the point where I no longer feel I'll find my perfect headphones alone. I've done a lot of lurking but it just seems like there are so many options for each of which I manage to find someone who's been dissatisfied with them... Looking for a pair that really doesn't have much of a downside or weaker property.
I've owned a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro's for some time now, and have been somewhat disappointed... the sound has always felt rather distant and not very immersive, with pretty weak bass too. Not very pretty either. Although I have been able to appreciate the clarity of sound and the noise cancellation. But they really don't meet all of my needs, so I've haven't been listening to as much music as I'd like.
Factors I'm looking for then:
- Needs GREAT bass for my dubstep/electronic music, without neglecting the other ranges
- Over ear with great isolation - I wear them often at loud swim meets trying to jack myself up before a race, love being able to shut out my environment.
- Will hopefully be my main headphones too, so will be used for general PC gaming and youtube browsing. Skype calls too, an inline or detachable mic would be a great plus but not essential. Don't play FPSs though so great sound placement for that isn't necessary.
- Relatively comfortable for extended wear, durable and portable.
- Not hideous to look at.
My price range right now is around $75 to $150, but can be raised if given enough persuasion.
An area I'm clueless on is the benefits of a headphone amp... are they a necessity to really enjoy my music? I'd have no idea what to look for. Again though if they'd be worth it I would invest once better educated on the matter.
I think that's about everything, can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Thanks for doing what you do!
