The good old Sennheiser HD485 is pretty good for movies. They are real cheap used these days too.

HD555 and HD595. Perhaps even some Beyers. They're pretty well rounded.

i use the hd595 for tv shows on dvds/blu-ray and they're great for that. if you watch a lot of action movies, you'll probably want a phone with more bass. the m50 has a good bass and is well within your price range. i know the m50 is hip hop and pop but i have no clue what their feedback is for movies. you may want to look into that.

The HD580 will require an amp to drive them properly. The HD555 and 595 don't need one to sound great.

I used to use the Sennheiser HD-280 pro for Blu-ray. The HD-280 pro gives good isolation, and would be within your price range. Before Blu-ray I used a pair of HD-545's for movies. I now use D7000's for Blu-ray but they are more than you want to spend.

Unfortunately I do not have any experience with the Xonar, so I could not say how well it would drive the HD-280 pro.

For the HD580, no. Everything else mentioned doesn't need an amp.
