lod cable and the 30 pin dock connector??

Hello i have been reading many posts in here the last few days and thought this IS a good place as any to ask some questions??
 
 i want to make my own cable however i am having some confusion on the 30 pin dock connector pin placement
i have seen two different pictures of the pin assignment and that"s what has me confused.
 
The male dock connector's internal pin numbering:

so if i need pins   2,3,4,11,15,21  which ones are they
 
 
i would assume with the connector plugged in to my itouch looking at my screen like i normally would when plugging it in
 
 that pin# 1 is on the top set of pins like in the example above am i right to assume this???
 
i would hate to fry my itouch or even my amp (fiio e11) i have done my share of soldering but the pins must be right,lol  can anyone help me with this question??

why are all the LOD cables so salty they aren't to hard to make by the looks of a video i seen i could make about fifty in an hour parts might cost somewhere around $40-50,,, so why are some a $100-$200 bucks am i missing something here???

Some people aren't willing or don't know how to make their own, so they pay for them.
 
As for your numbering question...aren't they the same?
 
I'm guessing that the first picture assumes the top part of the dock connector is the top of the image, making pin 2 the first pin on one side of the bottom part.  The second image already assumes you're looking at the bottom part of the connector as per the note.

I've seen a couple of references to one being used in the older versions and one the newer.  If you do a search on here there are some really good pictures of step by step tutorials.  I have made 2 lod's and integrated a dock, that charges the ipod, into an old boom box I use at work.  Two different references I had gave different pin numbers and I just used the pictures on here to figure it out.  
 
I can say that those pins can be a real pita to solder to and they will break if you are not really careful.
