Do you guys think it is counterproductive? Or perhaps ruin the intended frequency response of the headphones? Would this protect your ears?

Its a joke.... Anyway I am interested too. However you would need earplugs that dont block out a lot of treble. Foam earplugs tend to do that so maybe ety plugs or v-moda faders.

Take a look at the frequency response curves at http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html. Foam plugs usually kill treble so they are definitely not the best choice for listening to music.
