Any thought on this black metal album?

Where has this band been all my life?! ...In Philadelphia, apparently!

Magnificently monstrous material! It's like throwing Deathspell Omega, Leviathan, Antaeus and Esoteric in a blender.

Here's their first album, also available as a free download: https://skaphe.bandcamp.com/album/sk-phe

One of the members is in Krieg and Chaos Moon!

This is out Friday but available now on Bandcamp. Last year's debut Absolution from the Denver band was really great, and this is even better. A little rock 'n' doom along the lines of 20 Buck Spin labelmates Magic Circle, some Thin Lizzy harmonized guitar leads, clean vocals along the lines of Pallbearer but better, and some nice heavier spinecrushing moments too. Plus the Uncle Fester-like cartoon wizard from last year is back on the new cover. Check out the Cthulu beast on the shield! | My Review - http://fastnbulbous.com/khemmis-hunted/

Agreed. This is so evil and sick. Based on your preferences, you geared more towards atonal bm than melodic?

I like nearly all black metal, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the most extreme stuff.

Here's a great track. Dunno if you've heard it.

Ashes of Angels by Aosoth

Im new to black metal so i have not heard this before. Great track and im surprised i enjoy this a lot. I also like the skaphe with the first listen eventhough i tried to avoid listening to bm before. Maybe my taste changed

This is the worst sounding album I've heard all year.
Round of applause.

It does, but for my taste, it's a bit too muddy and lacks clarity.

I understand that you mostly listen to melodic death metal and when listening to this bm, it feels claustrophobic and muddy in your point of view. Before this, I mostly listen to death metal and I really enjoy the catchy and brutal riffs with pristine production. Transitioning to bm I feel same with you. Lack clarity, muddy, etc. After several listens, I started to appreciate the quality of recording, the rawness, the atmosphere that I cannot get when listening to dm. Yea, it takes time.
