According to Crinacle's latest post entitiled "The CRN-KZ Situation", there is an issue with the tuning of these IEMs. Apparently, the assertion is the drivers aren't tuned correctly together (my summation of the issue); specifically, the high frequency driver is 'tuned lower' in output than the DD which it is carrying the FR. If I understand this correctly, that makes it essentially a single DD IEM.
I am not sure what to make of this as I own the ZEX. I am not as knowledgeable as you are here, so can someone shed some light on this? I think the high frequency driver was tuned lower in output to meet the FR expectations. If that is the case, then the point may be moot.
It would be helpful if KZ addresses this directly to get the factory position. (I own several KZ IEMs and would appreciate the clarification).
