Judging on sound alone--not comfort--which has better sound. Also since the 55's have a "vise grip" and fit snugly, do they even come close to the KSC-35's in sound? Last, is there anyone who has found the 55's comfortable?

My advice is get some KSC-35s ASAP and skip on the wannabes such as the KSC 55s or UR 40s. In my opinion, you're better off spending the 60 to 80 bucks on the next level up (Sennheiser HD 497, Grado SR 60, Sony MDR-V6) rather than getting the wannabes. IMHO the KSC 35s just hit the nail on the head with those drivers, like some kind of freak accident.

Believe me. I understand the 35's are the best in this class, but I don't like the clip on look. Yes, I know superficial. I have a pair of 35's and they sound great, but I am also looking to buy either the UR-40's or the KSC-55's.

The KSC-55 have a bit better sound, IMO. However, they are the MOST uncomfortable headphones I have ever worn. Unless you have a head narrower than a ten-year-old, they're like a vise grip

If you really want a pair of UR40, I'll sell you the ones I used for my review for $20 -- they generally cost 30-40 on the net

The only thing "not new" on them is the lack of felt covering the driver -- and that's a good thing, since removing the felt makes them sound much better. Other than that they're in new condition with all original packaging.
