No, it's meant to plug in unused 3.5mm plug , the other balanced 4.4mm with the iem.
The device act as a active grounding.

Oh I see. I've never used it (lol obviously )... but I would think that a newer IEM would make more of a difference, and be more fun?

I have many of iems already, just wanna play other with other things that can enhance the sound.
Just like op-amps rolling etc.
