Today in the mail I received the new SACD verison of the Kinks 1979 record, "Low Budget." It's on Mobile Fidelity. One word describes the sound:
Wow!
I've had this record since it was released in 1979, first on LP and then on two different CD remasterings. I really noticed an improvement in the low end--Mick Avory's drums sound tighter and more powerful. The overall sound is much clearer, and instruments are easier to distinguish from one another. Ray Davies' vocals appear to be a bit clearer, but here I didn't notice a hugh improvement over prior issues.
There are three extra cuts, and a different (longer) version of "A Gallon of Gas." If you're a Kinks fan, or want a good-sounding SACD, pick up "Low Budget."
